When your window unit needs attention

  1. 1

Weak cooling even on full power

The room stays warm even with the unit running at full. Most often the coil or filter is blocked with the dust and salt Jeddah's air carries; cleaning them brings the cooling back without any parts.

  2. 2

    Water leaking into the room

Dripping inside the room does not always mean a mechanical fault. The unit needs a slight tilt toward the outside so condensate runs away. We check the tilt, the drain tray and the drain holes before anything else.

  3. 3

Loud noise or a fan that will not spin

Grinding or heavy vibration usually points to a fan with broken blades, a worn shaft or a foreign object inside the unit. A fan that does not start while the compressor hums is often a failed run capacitor.

Who it's for

  • Your flat's window unit drips onto the floor

We check the unit tilt, drain tray and drain holes on site and correct the real cause so the dripping does not return.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

WhatsApp us what is happening: noise, drip or weak cooling. A photo of the front of the unit helps us know the model before the visit.

  2. 2

    On-site diagnosis

The technician checks the filter, coil, fan, capacitor and thermostat in order, then tells you the real cause and what the repair needs before he starts.

  3. 3

    Repair or replace call

If the repair is practical we complete it in the same visit. If the unit is old, the chassis is deeply rusted or the compressor fault is complex, we say so plainly and explain your options.

  4. 4

    Run test and handover

After the repair we run the unit, check the cooling, confirm the drain flows and watch the current settle, then leave the room clean.

What sets this district apart

Al Ala is a mixed residential district containing apartment blocks of various heights and scattered villas, meaning window units are present in varying proportions by building type. In older and mid-level blocks, the window AC is the main option for kitchens, bathrooms and even some rooms, while newer villas may not use it at all. This diversity means repair may be urgent and critical in an older flat but optional in a newer villa.

Al Ala sits in north-east Jeddah, a mixed residential district of blocks and villas with diverse use of window units.

Window unit usage in Al Ala varies by housing type, and most faults occur in the higher-density residential areas.

The AC setup in Al Ala

  1. 1

Window units in older and mid-rise apartment blocks

Older blocks in Al Ala retain window units, and repair is relatively quick due to standardised design.

  2. 2

    Rare units in newer villas

New villas in Al Ala are primarily split-based, but old window units may remain from before development.

  3. 3

Direct drainage outside the external wall

Most units are designed for direct drainage, but the tilt can weaken over time due to settling.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC repair

Can a window unit be repaired in the same visit?

Many faults, a clogged filter, a dirty coil, a failed run capacitor and a wrong tilt, are fixed in a single visit. If the unit needs a part the technician does not carry, we arrange a second visit once it is sourced.

How does Jeddah's salty air affect a window unit?

The damp salty air from the sea speeds up corrosion on the metal chassis, fan blades and coil fins. Units on sea-facing walls or higher floors corrode faster. We check how deep the rust goes and tell you honestly whether the unit is worth repairing or whether the chassis has reached the point where replacement saves more.

The unit runs but the compressor will not start. What causes that?

The most common cause is a failed run capacitor that can no longer give the compressor or fan the starting push it needs. The relay is the second likely cause. The technician tests both with instruments and confirms which is at fault before replacing anything.

Why does my window unit drip water into the room?

A window unit drains condensate out of the back, so if it tilts inwards or the drain holes in its base block, the water comes back into the room. We reset the tilt slightly outwards, clean the pan and drain holes, and check the frame is sealed so no water runs down the sides.

Can a faulty thermostat cause the compressor to cycle on and off rapidly?

Yes. A faulty thermostat can send wrong signals that make the compressor cut in and out abnormally, straining the circuit and reducing cooling. The technician tests the thermostat with instruments and separates it from other causes such as the relay or a supply voltage issue before any part is replaced.

My villa is new and doesn't need a window unit, but there's an old one, should I remove it or repair it?

If you don't need it, removal is best. But if you might use it later for the kitchen or attached shop, simple repair is cheaper than installing fresh later.

The flat is old and the building is narrow, how do you reach the third floor?

We carry tools by hand in narrow buildings and use light equipment. Tell us the flat location and floor so we can plan properly.

Coastal air weakens the unit more, is there any protection?

Salt and humidity speed corrosion and leaks. Regular cleaning every three months and protective coating on external parts help.

How long does unit repair typically take?

Most simple repairs like drain cleaning or capacitor replacement take a few minutes, while more complex work may take an hour or two.
