When your window unit needs attention

  1. 1

Weak cooling even on full power

The room stays warm even with the unit running at full. Most often the coil or filter is blocked with the dust and salt Jeddah's air carries; cleaning them brings the cooling back without any parts.

  2. 2

    Water leaking into the room

Dripping inside the room does not always mean a mechanical fault. The unit needs a slight tilt toward the outside so condensate runs away. We check the tilt, the drain tray and the drain holes before anything else.

  3. 3

Loud noise or a fan that will not spin

Grinding or heavy vibration usually points to a fan with broken blades, a worn shaft or a foreign object inside the unit. A fan that does not start while the compressor hums is often a failed run capacitor.

Who it's for

  • Your flat's window unit drips onto the floor

We check the unit tilt, drain tray and drain holes on site and correct the real cause so the dripping does not return.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

WhatsApp us what is happening: noise, drip or weak cooling. A photo of the front of the unit helps us know the model before the visit.

  2. 2

    On-site diagnosis

The technician checks the filter, coil, fan, capacitor and thermostat in order, then tells you the real cause and what the repair needs before he starts.

  3. 3

    Repair or replace call

If the repair is practical we complete it in the same visit. If the unit is old, the chassis is deeply rusted or the compressor fault is complex, we say so plainly and explain your options.

  4. 4

    Run test and handover

After the repair we run the unit, check the cooling, confirm the drain flows and watch the current settle, then leave the room clean.

What sets this district apart

Al Asalah is a relatively modern residential district with multi-storey flats, and many residents prefer window units to save costs and avoid internal ductwork. Yet the close-packed flats and coastal humidity make window units prone to water leaks from the drain pan and salt buildup on the coils, leading to blockages and apparent failures that are often repairable.

Al Asalah lies in north Jeddah, a modern residential zone of multi-storey flats with relatively open spacing between buildings.

Individual window units are the common choice in small to mid-sized flats, mounted in exterior walls facing the street or rear courtyard.

The AC setup in Al Asalah

  1. 1

Single window unit in a bedroom or sitting room

Most Al Asalah flats have one or two window units placed in an external window to cool the main living space.

  2. 2

Installation in an external wall instead of a window

Some modern flats have cut a hole in the external wall for the window unit to avoid blocking the window itself.

  3. 3

Water drain pan linked to an outlet below the unit

Window units rely on an internal pan and an external drain hole, and any blockage causes water to build up and overflow.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Asalah

  1. 1

Make sure the team can reach the window or exterior opening

Check that the window or exterior opening holding the unit is safe and easy to reach from outside before the visit day.

  2. 2

Switch off the unit's power supply beforehand

Disconnect the unit from power before the team arrives to ensure safety during inspection and repair.

  3. 3

Clear the space around the outdoor unit

Make sure the area outside the window or around the opening is clear of objects that might obstruct the team or fall during work.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC repair

Can a window unit be repaired in the same visit?

Many faults, a clogged filter, a dirty coil, a failed run capacitor and a wrong tilt, are fixed in a single visit. If the unit needs a part the technician does not carry, we arrange a second visit once it is sourced.

How does Jeddah's salty air affect a window unit?

The damp salty air from the sea speeds up corrosion on the metal chassis, fan blades and coil fins. Units on sea-facing walls or higher floors corrode faster. We check how deep the rust goes and tell you honestly whether the unit is worth repairing or whether the chassis has reached the point where replacement saves more.

The unit runs but the compressor will not start. What causes that?

The most common cause is a failed run capacitor that can no longer give the compressor or fan the starting push it needs. The relay is the second likely cause. The technician tests both with instruments and confirms which is at fault before replacing anything.

Why does my window unit drip water into the room?

A window unit drains condensate out of the back, so if it tilts inwards or the drain holes in its base block, the water comes back into the room. We reset the tilt slightly outwards, clean the pan and drain holes, and check the frame is sealed so no water runs down the sides.

Can a faulty thermostat cause the compressor to cycle on and off rapidly?

Yes. A faulty thermostat can send wrong signals that make the compressor cut in and out abnormally, straining the circuit and reducing cooling. The technician tests the thermostat with instruments and separates it from other causes such as the relay or a supply voltage issue before any part is replaced.

My window unit drips water inside the flat, must I replace it?

Not necessarily. Leaks usually come from a blocked or wrongly angled drain pan, or from salt buildup blocking the drain hole. We clean the pan, correct the tilt and test the drainage before saying replacement is needed.

The flats here are close together, does that affect repair access?

Outdoor units in close-packed flats may sit near each other, but we check access in advance and coordinate with neighbours if we need safe working space.

Salt from the sea clogs my unit, is this expected in Al Asalah?

Yes, the coastal location means salt and moisture build up quickly on the evaporator and condenser coils. Part of the repair is cleaning those coils and checking the drain pan regularly to prevent blockages.

The building's wiring is rather old, could that affect the repair?

It might. If the power supply is unstable, it can burn out the capacitor or motors. We check the cable and plug and confirm the earth is safe before final diagnosis.
