When your window unit needs attention

  1. 1

Weak cooling even on full power

The room stays warm even with the unit running at full. Most often the coil or filter is blocked with the dust and salt Jeddah's air carries; cleaning them brings the cooling back without any parts.

  2. 2

    Water leaking into the room

Dripping inside the room does not always mean a mechanical fault. The unit needs a slight tilt toward the outside so condensate runs away. We check the tilt, the drain tray and the drain holes before anything else.

  3. 3

Loud noise or a fan that will not spin

Grinding or heavy vibration usually points to a fan with broken blades, a worn shaft or a foreign object inside the unit. A fan that does not start while the compressor hums is often a failed run capacitor.

Who it's for

  • Your flat's window unit drips onto the floor

We check the unit tilt, drain tray and drain holes on site and correct the real cause so the dripping does not return.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

WhatsApp us what is happening: noise, drip or weak cooling. A photo of the front of the unit helps us know the model before the visit.

  2. 2

    On-site diagnosis

The technician checks the filter, coil, fan, capacitor and thermostat in order, then tells you the real cause and what the repair needs before he starts.

  3. 3

    Repair or replace call

If the repair is practical we complete it in the same visit. If the unit is old, the chassis is deeply rusted or the compressor fault is complex, we say so plainly and explain your options.

  4. 4

    Run test and handover

After the repair we run the unit, check the cooling, confirm the drain flows and watch the current settle, then leave the room clean.

What sets this district apart

Most Al Balad flats and old market blocks use window units because the closely built structures cannot fit large outdoor units or long copper runs. High humidity and dust from the narrow streets speed up dirt buildup on the coil and condenser, causing leaks and poor cooling. Our team inspects the coil, filter, condenser and the gap between unit and frame to pinpoint the real cause before any repair.

Al Balad lies at Jeddah's historic core, an area of closely packed old residential blocks and shops around the popular markets.

Window units are the standard in Al Balad, mounted directly in the window frame with no separate outdoor space.

The AC setup in Al Balad

  1. 1

Window unit mounted in the frame

Most Al Balad flats have a window unit mounted directly in the frame, needing no separate external run.

  2. 2

Multiple window units in one building

Older blocks contain several flats or shops, each with its own separate window unit on different windows.

  3. 3

Window units mixed with split systems in older blocks

Some shops or flats that were refurbished have a split unit alongside the older window AC in the same building.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Balad

  1. 1

    Clear the window of obstructions

Make sure the window holding the unit is free of curtains or furniture before the visit for easy access.

  2. 2

Give the team access to the flat or shop

The team needs access from inside and out to inspect the unit fully, so provide them with the flat or shop key beforehand.

  3. 3

Check the external ladder or chair safety

If the unit is on an upper floor, ensure the ladder or platform the team uses to reach the external side is safe.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC repair

Can a window unit be repaired in the same visit?

Many faults, a clogged filter, a dirty coil, a failed run capacitor and a wrong tilt, are fixed in a single visit. If the unit needs a part the technician does not carry, we arrange a second visit once it is sourced.

How does Jeddah's salty air affect a window unit?

The damp salty air from the sea speeds up corrosion on the metal chassis, fan blades and coil fins. Units on sea-facing walls or higher floors corrode faster. We check how deep the rust goes and tell you honestly whether the unit is worth repairing or whether the chassis has reached the point where replacement saves more.

The unit runs but the compressor will not start. What causes that?

The most common cause is a failed run capacitor that can no longer give the compressor or fan the starting push it needs. The relay is the second likely cause. The technician tests both with instruments and confirms which is at fault before replacing anything.

Why does my window unit drip water into the room?

A window unit drains condensate out of the back, so if it tilts inwards or the drain holes in its base block, the water comes back into the room. We reset the tilt slightly outwards, clean the pan and drain holes, and check the frame is sealed so no water runs down the sides.

Can a faulty thermostat cause the compressor to cycle on and off rapidly?

Yes. A faulty thermostat can send wrong signals that make the compressor cut in and out abnormally, straining the circuit and reducing cooling. The technician tests the thermostat with instruments and separates it from other causes such as the relay or a supply voltage issue before any part is replaced.

My window unit drips into the flat, what causes that?

Usually the coil is clogged with dirt or the drain pan is tilted wrongly. We examine the causes, clean the coil and realign the drain pan to stop the leak.

My flat is cramped with no outdoor space, how do you service the window unit?

We work directly on the unit in the window frame from both inside and outside, and need no separate outdoor space because the window itself is the outlet.

Al Balad's humidity is high, does that affect the window unit?

Yes, coastal humidity speeds moisture buildup on the coil and condenser, hastening mould growth and water dripping. We check these parts regularly at each service visit.

My window unit makes a loud noise, does it need replacing?

Not necessarily. Loose mounting bolts or a fan rubbing the housing often cause the noise. We trace the source, tighten or clean parts before considering replacement.
