Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Ghawla

In Al Ghawla, east Jeddah, central AC installation for apartments faces the challenge of cramped design and low ceilings in the residential towers. Alrabih's team calculates space precisely and distributes air quietly through tight passages without disturbing neighbours.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Ghawla towers are densely built for small families and young professionals, with identical flats and minimal shared space between units. The drop ceiling is often just 30 cm high, and the passages between blocks are narrow, meaning any leak or routing error easily reaches neighbouring flats. Central AC here calls for precise capacity calculation and distance planning, plus full coordination with the building authority.

Al Ghawla is a densely built residential district in east Jeddah, with small apartment blocks and limited shared passages.

Most flats here need a completely concealed indoor unit because the ceiling is so low, and air distribution using the minimum number of long ducts.

The AC setup in Al Ghawla

  1. 1

    Extra-slim indoor unit

The indoor unit is designed to be extra-slim to fit the tight gap between the false ceiling and the structural slab, usually mounted in the passage or bathroom.

  2. 2

    Flexible ducts minimised

We use minimal flexible ducts for air distribution, reducing system losses and noise in tight passages.

  3. 3

    Direct and safe drainage

The drain line runs directly to the central drainage or outside via the shortest route, fully insulated.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Ghawla

  1. 1

Measure the ceiling space very carefully

Before the visit, measure the exact height between the structural ceiling and drop ceiling (in centimetres), and tell us about any electrical or water obstacles.

  2. 2

    Get written building management approval

Get written approval from building management on the outdoor unit location and drain routing before the appointment.

  3. 3

Tell us where existing water and power run

Show us where the water pipes and electrical runs are in the ceiling, so we mount the unit safely alongside them.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

Our ceiling is only 25 cm, can you fit a central system in that space?

Yes, but we select an extra-slim unit placed alongside existing water and electrical pipes, and we measure the space precisely before ordering.

The passages are very tight, how does your team get the equipment and unit through?

We separate the indoor unit into detachable parts for installation, and connect them after safely feeding each piece through the tight passage.

Humidity in the east is very high, does central AC handle it well?

Yes, but we select a unit with slightly higher cooling capacity because humidity increases the system load, and we advise regular air filter cleaning.

Will the flat's electrical supply handle a central unit this size?

This depends on the current circuit capacity, which we check on the first visit and advise if an upgrade is needed.
