Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Manar

In Al Manar east of Jeddah, modern residential flats increasingly request central AC to evenly distribute air across spacious layouts. Alrabih's team carefully selects positions and routes to adapt to contemporary construction and tight ceilings in some units.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Manar is a relatively modern eastern district hosting residential buildings of varied design, with flats ranging from small to spacious units. Some older buildings in the area were not originally designed for central AC, whilst newer structures offer more stable suspended ceiling space. Each installation requires careful assessment before starting. The district sits slightly inland from the coast, making humidity more manageable than coastal zones.

Al Manar sits east of Jeddah, with modern residential buildings of varied design ranging from compact to spacious flats.

Al Manar flats need individual assessment, with some suited to a single ceiling unit and simple ducts, whilst others may require a dual system or custom distribution strategy.

The AC setup in Al Manar

  1. 1

Ceiling unit with simple or dual ducts

Depending on flat size and suspended ceiling, we use a single unit with simple ducts or a dual system if the space needs separate air distribution.

  2. 2

Safe condensate drainage to bathroom or rear balcony

We run the drain line from the ceiling to a bathroom or rear balcony safely to avoid dampness on adjacent walls or furniture.

  3. 3

Outdoor unit on roof or distant balcony

The outdoor unit sits on the roof or the furthest available rear balcony, away from main windows and shared walls with neighbours.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Manar

  1. 1

Confirm building management and neighbours' approval

Obtain written approval from building management and inform adjacent neighbours of the plan to avoid later objections to the outdoor unit.

  2. 2

Inspect the suspended ceiling and existing beams

Access the suspended ceiling and inspect for any concrete beams, cables or pipes that might obstruct the indoor unit position.

  3. 3

Locate nearby drainage and water lines

Check for nearby drainage pipes or sewage lines in the ceiling so we can choose the best route for the condensate drain.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

Our building is relatively older in Al Manar, is central AC installation possible?

Yes, it is always possible. We inspect the ceiling and available space and design a system suited to the older building, using a single unit or custom approach depending on circumstances.

How do you route the lines and cables through a crowded building?

We study the building's interior and exterior plans and choose concealed routes around rear and side walls, coordinating with management for safe passage across shared roofs and corridors.

Al Manar has humidity, does it affect central AC efficiency?

Al Manar is less exposed to humidity than coastal zones, but we carefully position the condensate drain and fit a high-efficiency filter to maintain performance and manage condensation.

The outdoor unit will be visible on the building façade, can you hide it?

We choose the most visually discrete location on the roof or rear balcony to minimise visual impact, and will use a rear corner away from the front façade if available.
