Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Rawdah

In Al Rawdah, west Jeddah, flats in closely built modern blocks need central AC that balances efficiency with quiet operation and does not disturb neighbours. Alrabih designs the air ducts carefully to prevent noise and vibration that travel easily between units.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Rawdah is a new residential district built at high density, with very closely spaced blocks and relatively thin party walls. The gaps between buildings are narrow, making careful placement of the outdoor unit critical and noise prevention essential. Humidity in west Jeddah is moderate but summer heat is intense, and natural ventilation is limited by the closely packed buildings. Central AC must deliver strong performance without causing vibrations or low-frequency sounds that travel through shared ceilings and walls.

Al Rawdah lies in west Jeddah, a district of modern apartment blocks built at very high density with thin party walls.

Most new Al Rawdah flats have suspended ceilings with tight voids, and most need a booster fan to ensure cool air reaches all rooms evenly.

The AC setup in Al Rawdah

  1. 1

Indoor unit in corridor with thick sound insulation

We place the indoor unit in the corridor away from party walls, mounted on a flexible bracket with thick sound insulation.

  2. 2

Sound-insulated ducts with optional booster fan

We use thick sound-insulated ducts, and may add a booster fan in larger flats to ensure even distribution without noise.

  3. 3

    Sound-dampening panels behind outdoor unit

We install sound-dampening panels behind the outdoor unit to reduce vibration and noise transfer to adjacent flats and balconies.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Rawdah

  1. 1

Check balcony and side walls are safe

Check that the balcony and side walls are in good condition and can bear the outdoor unit's weight before the visit.

  2. 2

Plan outdoor unit placement to avoid disturbing neighbours

Tell us where neighbouring balconies and windows are, so we can choose an outdoor unit location that does not cause noise disturbance to neighbours.

  3. 3

    Coordinate with management and neighbours

Inform the management and neighbours of the installation date, as work may involve accessing shared walls or areas close to adjacent flats.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

My flat is in the middle of the building; how do you avoid noise with neighbours?

We select sound-insulated ducts and mount the indoor unit on a flexible bracket that reduces vibration. We also recommend sound-dampening panels behind the outdoor unit to minimise noise transfer to adjacent flats.

The gaps between buildings are very tight; are there problems installing the outdoor unit?

Space may be tight, but we often find a suitable spot on the balcony or side wall. We visit first to assess the options and ensure the outdoor unit does not affect neighbouring flats.

Summer heat here is intense; will the AC be adequate?

We select a unit of adequate capacity based on flat size. We may add a booster fan if the flat is very large, and install a shade over the outdoor unit to improve cooling efficiency.

Electrical wiring from the flat to the balcony may need extension; is that safe?

We use approved electrical cable of adequate gauge and secure it safely along walls. We recommend a voltage stabiliser near the outdoor unit to protect the compressor and motor from fluctuations.
