Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Ta'awun

In Al Ta'awun, south Jeddah, central AC installation in flats requires careful calculation for intense heat and sea-borne humidity. Alrabih designs the system with very strong insulation and calculated airflow balance.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Ta'awun is a dense residential neighbourhood with varied apartment blocks of different sizes and ages, some relatively old. Its southern coastal location brings both fierce heat and very high humidity together. Central AC here needs exceptional insulation throughout the ducts and units, and airflow calculation must account for the very high thermal load and the need to dehumidify. Condensate drainage becomes critical here due to heavy condensation.

Al Ta'awun lies in south Jeddah, a dense residential area near the sea with buildings of varied age.

Most flats here need powerful outdoor units and precise airflow balance due to the severe thermal load and humidity.

The AC setup in Al Ta'awun

  1. 1

    High-capacity outdoor unit

Extreme heat and high humidity together demand a more powerful outdoor unit than standard minimums.

  2. 2

    Extra-thick insulation and humidity dampers

Extra-thick insulation protects against cooling loss, and dampers regulate airflow to combat humidity.

  3. 3

Reinforced drainage with multiple inspection points

Drain pipes are extra-insulated with multiple inspection points to monitor and quickly handle heavy condensation.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Ta'awun

  1. 1

Tell us about the flat's sun exposure

Specify which rooms get direct sun and when, so we can calculate thermal load accurately and choose the right unit.

  2. 2

Ensure team access to ceiling and floors below

Check that your ceiling is accessible, and that the flat below (if any) can be accessed to inspect drainage if needed.

  3. 3

Position outdoor unit away from direct moisture

The outdoor unit should be positioned away from direct sea-borne moisture if possible, or under shade or protective cover.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

My flat is in Al Ta'awun where the heat is extreme, will central AC be sufficient?

Yes if designed with precise thermal load calculation. We measure your flat's size, sun exposure, and elevation to accurately calculate the right outdoor unit capacity.

Humidity is very high here because we are near the sea, does this strain the AC?

Yes, high humidity increases load because the unit must dehumidify as well as cool. We choose a slightly oversized unit and install humidity control dampers.

How often should I clean the filter in this hot, humid climate?

We recommend cleaning the filter every six weeks instead of three months. Dust and humidity together clog filters faster in coastal areas.

Could AC condensation cause problems in my own flat?

If drain pipes are properly insulated and sloped, there should be no issue. But in high-humidity areas like Al Ta'awun, we check drain pipes every six months to ensure they are not blocked.
