Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Yaqoot

In Al Yaqoot, north Jeddah, installing central AC in apartments demands precision in routing ducts through tight ceiling voids and distributing air quietly across every room. Alrabih positions the indoor unit in a corridor or bathroom so it does not disturb neighbours.

  • Tight ceiling
  • Sealed drain
  • Quiet running

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Most Al Yaqoot flats are relatively modern in multi-storey residential blocks with concrete ceilings and tight gaps between floors. Installing central AC here calls for clever routing of the ductwork horizontally through the ceiling void without breaching load-bearing walls or sitting too close to neighbouring units. The drain water from the evaporator must reach the floor below or waste outlet without leaving moisture in the concrete ceiling, which takes prior coordination with the building management.

Al Yaqoot is in north Jeddah, a modern residential district of elegant multi-storey apartment blocks with standardised layouts.

Most flats here do not yet have central AC, and installation calls for insulated ducts of 200 to 250 mm diameter carefully routed through the tight ceiling.

The AC setup in Al Yaqoot

  1. 1

Central ducts run through the concrete ceiling

Insulated ducts distribute air from the indoor unit through the tight ceiling to each room via vents.

  2. 2

Indoor unit in corridor or bathroom

Mounting the unit away from living areas keeps noise down inside the flat and away from neighbours' ears.

  3. 3

Drain line to the floor below

The drain tube slopes steadily toward the floor below's outlet, preventing water pooling in the concrete ceiling void.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Yaqoot

  1. 1

    Mark the indoor unit location

Choose a corridor or bathroom where the unit can be mounted without blocking passage or affecting bedrooms.

  2. 2

    Ensure ceiling access is clear

Check that the corridor and bathroom ceilings can take vents and ductwork routing without structural obstructions.

  3. 3

    Get building management approval

Coordinate with building management before work starts to ensure the drain route and ducts do not clash with fire, electrical or other building systems.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

Will the concrete ceiling in Al Yaqoot apartments take central AC ducts?

Yes, the concrete ceiling can take them, but the ducts must run carefully without piercing the load-bearing walls. We check the building's structural drawings before we start.

Where should the indoor unit go so it does not disturb my upstairs neighbour?

We place it in a corridor or bathroom away from bedrooms, which cuts vibration noise reaching the ceiling and the flat above.

The ceiling space has some dampness, will the drain water make it worse?

No, if we route the drain water properly to a waste outlet or floor below through a correctly pitched pipe, the existing dampness will not worsen and may even improve with better airflow.

How long before installation should I prepare my flat?

We need to visit in advance to measure the ceiling and check the corridors and bathroom, then we give you the installation date at least one week ahead.
