Who needs a new cold room?

  1. 1

Restaurant or bakery expanding its store

Your current storage cannot hold the quantities you need, or you are relying on domestic fridges that are not up to the job. A purpose-built cold room keeps ingredients at a steady temperature and cuts waste caused by temperature swings.

  2. 2

Pharmacy or clinic needing medical storage

Medicines, vaccines and sensitive medical supplies need a temperature that does not shift when the door opens or when Jeddah's summer heat peaks. We build the room to suit that use and choose the condensing unit after the site survey.

  3. 3

Warehouse or grocery starting from scratch

You are fitting out your premises and want a cold room built in from the start, or you want to convert part of a warehouse into one. The site, the daily stock volume and how often the door opens all shape the right specification, and we work that out with you at the survey.

Who it's for

  • Opening a bakery and need ingredient storage

We survey your allocated space and build a cold room sized to your daily production volume, from insulated panels to the temperature controller.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

The technician visits, measures the available space and asks about your stock type, quantities and daily use to set the room dimensions and the capacity the unit needs.

  2. 2

    Panels and door

We fit the insulated wall and ceiling panels and seal every joint, then hang the cold room door in its frame and check that the seal presses evenly on all four sides.

  3. 3

    Cooling unit and pipework

We mount the condensing unit where it has enough air, fit the evaporator inside the room, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints, fully insulated to reduce heat gain.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, start-up, handover

We vacuum the copper line and test joints before starting the unit, then set the temperature controller and confirm the room reaches the target temperature before handing over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Safa is a mixed commercial and residential zone with hotel restaurants and large supermarkets, and the buildings are mid-rise multi-storey commercial projects. Coastal humidity and high heat increase cooling load, especially in restaurants and hotels where the room door opens frequently throughout the day, so we choose units with extra capacity and fit a well-sealed double-seal door to cut cold-air loss on every opening.

Al Safa sits in central Jeddah, a mixed commercial zone with hotels, restaurants and supermarkets near the coast.

Cold rooms for restaurants and hotels here typically range from 5 to 20 cubic metres, with moderate outdoor units but extra protection against coastal humidity.

The AC setup in Al Safa

  1. 1

Medium cold room with double-sealed door

Restaurants and hotels need very tight doors because of frequent daily openings, so we fit a double seal to cut cold-air loss.

  2. 2

Cooling unit with extra capacity against humidity

High coastal humidity and intensive use increase load, so we choose units with extra capacity and corrosion protection.

  3. 3

    Humidity-protected condensate drainage

Near the coast, humidity causes rapid condensate build-up, so we install a robust system that drains water away from walls and foundations.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Safa

  1. 1

    Provide details on daily usage

Tell us how many times the door opens daily and what foods are stored, so we calculate thermal load accurately and pick the right unit.

  2. 2

Designate outdoor unit location away from main entrance

Pick a spot on the roof or exterior wall away from hotel or restaurant entrances to avoid guest disturbance from noise and warm air.

  3. 3

Confirm electrical supply and piping route

Confirm a strong electrical circuit near the room location, and map a safe route for copper pipes between the room and outdoor unit.

FAQ

Questions about Cold room installation

How is the right cold room size worked out?

Size depends on the type and quantity of stock, how often fresh goods come in and how many times the door opens each day. These factors together set the dimensions and the cooling unit capacity needed, which is why we do not suggest a size before the site visit.

Where does the condensing unit go in a restaurant or warehouse?

The condensing unit needs enough air around it, distance from heat sources and a spot a technician can reach for servicing. We decide the best location at the site survey based on the building layout and how the space is used.

What happens to my stock if the power to the room cuts out?

A well-insulated room with a tight door holds its cold for a limited time if the door stays shut, and longer the thicker the insulation and the better the seal. So we choose the panel thickness and the door seal with care, and set the controller to raise an alarm when the temperature rises, so you can act before stock spoils.

What is the difference between this room and a freezer room?

A chiller room works above freezing and suits vegetables, medicines, dairy and baked goods. A freezer room works below freezing and needs thicker insulation, an insulated floor, a heated door frame and a defrost system. If you need freezing or a combined room, we offer that as a dedicated service.

Can a cold room be installed in a rented space without major structural changes?

In most cases yes. Insulated panels are assembled inside the existing space without demolition or construction work, and the condensing unit is fixed in a suitable spot the technician identifies at the survey. Ceiling type and building ventilation may affect the details, and we confirm those after seeing the site.

My restaurant opens the cold room door dozens of times daily, how does it keep cold?

We fit a door with a tight double seal and size the cooling unit with extra capacity to offset cold-air loss on every opening, and the thermostat auto-restarts quickly.

Humidity is very high here near the coast, does that affect the room?

Yes, coastal humidity increases load on the outdoor unit, so we choose units with extra corrosion protection, and design condensate drainage away from the building walls.

My hotel is small and space is tight, how do you fit the cold room in a confined area?

We assess the actual space, ceilings and walls, and design a bespoke room with capacity matching daily dish numbers, and place the outdoor unit on the kitchen roof or on the exterior wall.

How often does the cold room need cleaning and maintenance after installation?

We advise quarterly checks of the outdoor unit and cleaning of cooling fins, and twice-yearly door seal inspection to ensure it stays tight.
