Who needs a specialist freezer room?

  1. 1

    Stock that needs sub-zero cold

Meat, poultry, fish and ice cream spoil if the temperature rises even briefly above the required level. A freezer room is built to hold that level continuously, not simply to cool.

  2. 2

    One room, two temperature zones

Large restaurants and hotels usually need a chiller section and a freezer section side by side. We build both wings with separate insulation, independent refrigeration units and an insulated inner door, so neither zone affects the other's temperature.

  3. 3

    Expanding an existing facility

If your current cold room no longer holds all your stock, or you need to add a freezer section beside it, we survey the site and propose the most practical way to expand with as little disruption to your operation as possible.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

We visit the site, learn the stock type and required temperature, measure the available space, and decide the right insulation thickness and refrigeration system from what we find.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We draw the room layout including pipe and cable routes, then have the panels, doors and equipment ready before installation begins.

  3. 3

    Installation and connection

We fit the panels, insulated floor and door, then run and insulate the copper pipes, vacuum the line and pressure-test it before starting the system. Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints where the layout calls for it.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the system and watch the room reach its target temperature, confirm the defrost cycle works and the door seals properly, then explain the controls to the person responsible for the facility.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Salmiyah Al Sharqiyah is a mixed residential and commercial district with food shops, restaurants, small clinics and flats, with varying space from medium shops to small storage areas. Because of the residential and commercial mix, many activities here need a modest freezer room but with high hygiene standards, especially clinics storing blood tests or medical samples. The buildings are relatively modern with strong floors, but outdoor space is limited due to residential crowding, so the design needs a compact and safe solution.

Al Salmiyah Al Sharqiyah, in south Jeddah, is a mixed residential and commercial district with shops, clinics and flats side by side.

Most freezer and chiller rooms here are small to medium, handling 0.5 to 2 tons daily, mounted on floor or balconies.

The AC setup in Al Salmiyah Al Sharqiyah

  1. 1

    Small compact room

Small shops and clinics here install a tiny room handling 0.5 to 1 ton, suitable for medical samples or daily meat and fish storage.

  2. 2

    Rooftop or wall-mounted outdoor unit

Because of limited space and closely built residential blocks, the outdoor unit mounts on the roof or a safe, secure wall bracket.

  3. 3

    Energy-efficient control system

The small room is fitted with smart control that reduces energy use and sends alerts if power fails.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Salmiyah Al Sharqiyah

  1. 1

    Clear the installation site

Clear the planned area of items and clutter so the team can install the room freely.

  2. 2

Confirm entry point and roof access

Tell us the nearest entry point and whether the roof is easily accessible, and where the outdoor unit will be mounted.

  3. 3

Ensure power and drainage are ready

Check where the electrical panel is and that space exists for a new circuit, and locate the nearest water drainage point for the room.

FAQ

Questions about Cold & freezer room installation

Why does a freezer room need an insulated floor when a chiller often does not?

At sub-zero temperatures the moisture held in a concrete slab freezes and expands, cracking tiles and lifting bases over time. A chiller room operates above freezing, so ice crystals do not form in the slab. A freezer room therefore requires insulated panels under the floor together with a vapour barrier that blocks rising ground heat and protects the structure over the long term.

What is the difference between electric defrost and other types?

Electric defrost uses heating elements fixed inside the evaporator coil; they warm the coil directly and melt frost build-up. Hot-gas defrost instead redirects warm refrigerant from the compressor back through the same coil. The choice between the two depends on room size, the required number of cycles and the type of goods stored; the site survey determines which method suits each installation.

Can two zones at different temperatures share the same footprint?

Yes. A partition of insulated panels separates the space, with each side using a panel thickness matched to its required temperature differential. Each zone has its own refrigeration unit and a door with a heated frame to prevent condensation. This arrangement is widely used in meat and fish facilities that need a chiller zone for short-term stock and a freezer zone for longer storage. The final design depends on the available floor area and the heat load of each section.

Does the position of the condensing unit affect how the freezer room performs?

Position has a direct effect. The condensing unit needs clean air and adequate flow to reject heat; if it is placed in a confined space or near heat sources the condensing pressure rises and the compressor works harder. In Jeddah, outdoor air also carries salt and dust that accumulate on the condenser coil over time. The site survey identifies the best location and the copper-pipe route, keeping each Mueller copper pipe run within thirty metres without welded joints.

My clinic needs a chiller for samples, how is that different from a meat room?

A medical sample chiller needs a very stable temperature (usually 2, 8°C) and more precise control and higher cleaning standards than a food room.

Residential space outside is very tight, where does the outdoor unit go?

We mount the unit on the roof or a secure wall bracket if there is no yard, making sure it does not block windows or cause noise for neighbours.

My shop is open 12 hours daily, will the room consume too much power?

A small 0.5 to 1-ton room uses reasonable power, but we recommend a dedicated circuit and can fit smart controls that reduce energy use.

Heat and humidity in the district are very high, can a small room handle it?

Yes, we fit thick insulation even in small rooms, strong drainage and regular ventilation, and recommend service every 3 months in this hot, humid district.
