Who needs a specialist freezer room?

  1. 1

    Stock that needs sub-zero cold

Meat, poultry, fish and ice cream spoil if the temperature rises even briefly above the required level. A freezer room is built to hold that level continuously, not simply to cool.

  2. 2

    One room, two temperature zones

Large restaurants and hotels usually need a chiller section and a freezer section side by side. We build both wings with separate insulation, independent refrigeration units and an insulated inner door, so neither zone affects the other's temperature.

  3. 3

    Expanding an existing facility

If your current cold room no longer holds all your stock, or you need to add a freezer section beside it, we survey the site and propose the most practical way to expand with as little disruption to your operation as possible.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

We visit the site, learn the stock type and required temperature, measure the available space, and decide the right insulation thickness and refrigeration system from what we find.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We draw the room layout including pipe and cable routes, then have the panels, doors and equipment ready before installation begins.

  3. 3

    Installation and connection

We fit the panels, insulated floor and door, then run and insulate the copper pipes, vacuum the line and pressure-test it before starting the system. Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints where the layout calls for it.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the system and watch the room reach its target temperature, confirm the defrost cycle works and the door seals properly, then explain the controls to the person responsible for the facility.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.

What sets this district apart

Mushrifah is a busy commercial district with many food retailers, from poultry shops to supermarkets, all relying on dependable cold and freezer rooms to keep stock fresh and sale-ready. The passages and spaces here are wider than older districts, but the high coastal humidity and intensive use mean the room must maintain very stable temperature and have no water seepage or odour leaking into the shopping passage.

Mushrifah lies in central Jeddah, a lively commercial district with many food shops and supermarkets.

Most cold and freezer rooms here are medium-sized, installed on shop frontages or in back stores, with outdoor compressors placed on high roofs or side yards.

The AC setup in Mushrifah

  1. 1

Freezer room built into shop frontage

Retail shops in Mushrifah often choose a freezer room visible from the frontage to display products and draw customers, with an insulated glass door that keeps temperature stable.

  2. 2

Back freezer store for large supermarkets

Large supermarkets typically use a large freezer store in the back for bulk stock, with a separate small display unit in the passage for fresh products.

  3. 3

    Two-zone system for multi-product shops

Multi-product shops sometimes choose a two-zone system, one freezing zone for meat and poultry and one cold zone for fish or fresh goods.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Mushrifah

  1. 1

Show us shop layout and back storage

Before we visit, send photos and measurements of the frontage and back storage, including clear height, width, depth and your preferred room location.

  2. 2

Specify products and required storage capacity

Tell us what you will store, expected daily and weekly volumes, so we can calculate the right size, capacity and temperature needs.

  3. 3

Confirm roof and side yard access

If the compressor will be on the roof or side yard, ensure safe team access and that the foundation can bear the unit's weight.

FAQ

Questions about Cold & freezer room installation

Why does a freezer room need an insulated floor when a chiller often does not?

At sub-zero temperatures the moisture held in a concrete slab freezes and expands, cracking tiles and lifting bases over time. A chiller room operates above freezing, so ice crystals do not form in the slab. A freezer room therefore requires insulated panels under the floor together with a vapour barrier that blocks rising ground heat and protects the structure over the long term.

What is the difference between electric defrost and other types?

Electric defrost uses heating elements fixed inside the evaporator coil; they warm the coil directly and melt frost build-up. Hot-gas defrost instead redirects warm refrigerant from the compressor back through the same coil. The choice between the two depends on room size, the required number of cycles and the type of goods stored; the site survey determines which method suits each installation.

Can two zones at different temperatures share the same footprint?

Yes. A partition of insulated panels separates the space, with each side using a panel thickness matched to its required temperature differential. Each zone has its own refrigeration unit and a door with a heated frame to prevent condensation. This arrangement is widely used in meat and fish facilities that need a chiller zone for short-term stock and a freezer zone for longer storage. The final design depends on the available floor area and the heat load of each section.

Does the position of the condensing unit affect how the freezer room performs?

Position has a direct effect. The condensing unit needs clean air and adequate flow to reject heat; if it is placed in a confined space or near heat sources the condensing pressure rises and the compressor works harder. In Jeddah, outdoor air also carries salt and dust that accumulate on the condenser coil over time. The site survey identifies the best location and the copper-pipe route, keeping each Mueller copper pipe run within thirty metres without welded joints.

My shop is on the main commercial strip, will the room spoil the view?

We design the room to fit your shop's layout, either blending with the frontage or placing it in the back store depending on your preference and space.

The passage between my shop and the next is rather tight, how do you move in the heavy equipment?

Our team handles tight passages by breaking down equipment and moving it carefully, or we use alternate routes via the roof or back yard depending on the design.

Humidity here is very high, will water leak from the room into the shopping passage?

We ensure heavy insulation and precise drainage of defrost water away from the passage, and test the room before handover to confirm no seepage or odour.

I sell poultry, fish and meat in the same shop, do I need two rooms or one?

You can choose one large room or a two-zone system with an internal divider and independent temperature control per zone, depending on your needs and budget.
