Cold rooms kept running

Cold rooms in Al Fayhaa

In Al Fayhaa, central Jeddah, cold rooms in restaurants, cafés and shops work under constant pressure to preserve stock. Alrabih's team pinpoints the cause of temperature loss and treats the evaporator, condensing unit, controller and door seal to hold the set temperature.

When your cold room needs attention

  1. 1

    Room not holding temperature

The temperature climbs slowly even though the unit keeps running, or the products inside are warmer than they should be. The cause could be the evaporator, condensing unit, refrigerant level or controller, and only a site check tells which.

  2. 2

    Evaporator icing up and stopping

Ice builds on the evaporator until airflow stops and cooling fails. The cause is usually in the defrost circuit, its sensor or the evaporator fan. Jeddah's humid air speeds up icing when anything in that circuit is not working correctly.

  3. 3

    Door letting cold air escape

A worn or deformed door seal lets warm humid air in, overloading the refrigeration unit and speeding up evaporator icing. If the door frame heater has failed, moisture builds on the frame and the door becomes hard to open.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

WhatsApp us what you see: the temperature showing on the controller, whether the unit is running or not, and the type of stock inside the room.

  2. 2

    Site check and diagnosis

The technician checks the evaporator, condensing unit, defrost circuit, controller and door seal, then identifies the actual cause of the temperature loss before starting any work.

  3. 3

    Repair and replacement

We fix what the diagnosis found: clean the evaporator, repair the defrost circuit, replace the seal or adjust the refrigerant charge to the type written on the unit nameplate.

  4. 4

    Test and handover

We run the room and watch the temperature until it reaches the set value, confirm the alarm and controller are working, then hand you a report of what was done.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Fayhaa is a medium-density commercial and residential district with grocery shops, spice merchants, small restaurants and bakeries alongside residential blocks, many with small to medium cold rooms for stock. The rooms face intense pressure in Jeddah's hot, humid summers, and any repair delay exposes goods to rapid spoilage. Accurate diagnosis matters because the causes vary widely: from refrigerant leaks to thermostat failure or an evaporator clogged with frost and dirt.

Al Fayhaa sits in central Jeddah, a mixed district of small commercial shops and medium-density residential blocks.

Most cold rooms here are 5 to 15 tonnes capacity with standard evaporators and outdoor condensers mounted in tight gaps between shops or on small rooftops.

The AC setup in Al Fayhaa

  1. 1

5 to 15 tonne cold rooms for retail shops

Most rooms here are designed for small grocery shops and restaurants with medium capacity and indoor installation.

  2. 2

    Standard evaporators and wall-mounted condensers

Typical mounting is an indoor evaporator with the outdoor condenser on the shop's roof or wall.

  3. 3

    Digital thermostats and protection circuits

Most modern rooms include digital thermostats and protection switches against high pressure and power loss.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Fayhaa

  1. 1

Clear safe space around the outdoor unit

Make sure the outdoor condenser location is clear of obstacles and other equipment before the visit.

  2. 2

Tell us the room's age and any past faults

Send us photos from inside and outside the room and tell us when the problem started and what faults occurred previously.

  3. 3

Coordinate with shop or restaurant management

Ensure a responsible person is available at visit time, especially if the room is critical to your daily operations.

FAQ

Questions about Cold rooms

Why does the temperature rise even though the unit runs all the time?

Continuous running does not mean correct operation. Common causes include a refrigerant leak that reduces the charge, heavy frost on the evaporator coil blocking airflow, or a fault in the rooftop condensing unit raising head pressure. A site survey identifies the actual cause before any work begins.

How do I know if the defrost cycle is working properly?

Clear signs of a defrost fault include thick frost covering the full evaporator coil, a gradual temperature rise while the unit keeps running, and water pooling on the floor instead of draining away. The check covers the heater element, the defrost sensor and the controller, as the fault can lie in any of these parts.

What does a preventive visit for a cold room cover?

A preventive visit covers a pressure check on the refrigeration circuit, cleaning the condenser and evaporator coils, inspecting door seals and frame heaters, testing the controller and alarm, and checking copper pipe connections. The aim is to find a developing fault before it affects the room temperature and the stock inside.

What is the difference between a preventive visit and a repair visit?

A preventive visit is carried out on a unit that is running normally: the purpose is inspection, cleaning and finding early signs of wear before they become a breakdown. A repair visit is requested when an actual fault appears, such as a rising temperature, a stopped compressor or excessive coil icing. Diagnosis comes first, then the required work is defined.

Does Jeddah's rooftop heat affect the condensing unit's performance?

Yes. In summer, Jeddah rooftop surfaces reach very high temperatures, which raises condensing pressure, stresses the compressor and reduces cooling capacity. Regular cleaning of the condenser coil to remove the dust and salt that cling to the fins is essential, not optional. A site survey determines whether the unit's position or the airflow around it is making the problem worse.

My cold room is in a small shop, how do you fit a large outdoor condenser?

On the initial visit we assess the installation spot and find a suitable location on the roof, façade or side gap that suits your shop's size.

How often should I have my cold room serviced?

We recommend servicing every three to six months, and urgent attention immediately if you notice the temperature is not dropping or rising quickly.

Do Jeddah's summer heat and humidity affect cold-room efficiency?

Yes, high outdoor heat and coastal humidity increase the load on the condenser and evaporator and speed up frost and dirt buildup, so servicing is more critical in summer.

If power suddenly cuts to my cold room, does the stock spoil quickly?

Yes, stock begins to spoil within hours, especially in hot summer. We recommend checking your electrical runs and thermal breaker regularly, and may suggest a small backup battery for the controller if needed.
