When your freezer needs attention

  1. 1

The freezer is not freezing hard

Products feel soft or partly thawed even though the freezer is running. The cause may be the thermostat, the compressor, the refrigerant charge or the temperature sensor circuit. A site diagnosis tells you which one needs fixing.

  2. 2

Ice building up and not defrosting

A thick ice layer on the freezer wall or evaporator points to a fault in the defrost cycle, whether in the defrost heater, timer or sensor. Left alone, the build-up strains the compressor and steadily raises electricity use.

  3. 3

A door that will not seal or a unit that keeps alarming

A worn door gasket lets warm humid air in constantly, building ice and pressing the compressor harder. We check the gasket, the door frame and the alarm switch to find the cause of repeated alarms and put it right.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

Send us the freezer type, the fault you have noticed and your district, and we tell you what the technician will need before the visit.

  2. 2

    On-site diagnosis

The technician checks the compressor, evaporator, defrost circuit and door gasket, then explains what he found and proposes the repair before starting any work.

  3. 3

    Repair and reset

We fix the faulty part, reset the defrost cycle if needed, and test the freeze temperature and alarm after closing the unit.

  4. 4

    Performance check and handover

We confirm the freezer reaches the right freeze temperature and the door closes tightly, then explain how to monitor performance over the next few days.

What sets this district apart

Harat Al Mazloum is part of old downtown's markets, packed with small butcher shops, fish stalls closely spaced in narrow streets and tight passages. Freezers here work in an extremely humid and hot environment because of the sea's nearness and market congestion, so ice build-up and moisture are daily issues, and tight spaces sometimes make reaching the outdoor unit difficult. Coordinating with the shop owner and confirming compressor access is essential before any repair.

Harat Al Mazloum sits at the heart of old downtown Jeddah, a heritage market area crowded with butcher, fish, poultry and food shops.

Most Harat Al Mazloum shops use small upright freezers of 100 to 200 litres, with the compressor mounted on the back facade or shop roof.

The AC setup in Harat Al Mazloum

  1. 1

Small upright freezer for butcher or fish shop

Harat Al Mazloum's narrow shops rely on upright freezers of 100 to 150 litres because of space limits and daily fresh meat and fish storage.

  2. 2

Chest freezer for a poultry shop

Some poultry shops use small chest freezers of 150 to 200 litres mounted beside the counter for storing small frozen chickens.

  3. 3

Outdoor compressor on the roof or back wall

The compressor is mounted high on the roof or back wall to save indoor space and ease ventilation and maintenance.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Harat Al Mazloum

  1. 1

Tell us exactly where the freezer and compressor are

Clarify if the compressor is on the roof or back wall, and whether the copper lines between the shop and compressor are visible or hidden.

  2. 2

Arrange the best visit time with us during your shop hours

Your shop is busy all day in a crowded market, so tell us the quietest hours to reduce disruption and let the team focus on the repair.

  3. 3

Prepare a box or nearby chiller for the frozen stock

If we need to shut down the freezer for hours, frozen goods may thaw, so prepare an insulated box or nearby backup chiller until repair is complete.

FAQ

Questions about Freezer maintenance

Can the freezer be repaired without emptying it completely?

It depends on the fault. Checks on the compressor or an external sensor can be done without touching the contents. Repairs to the evaporator or defrost heater need the freezer emptied, and we tell you in advance and advise how to keep the stock in cool boxes while we work.

Why does my freezer compressor never stop running?

Three common causes: a worn door gasket letting warm air in, ice build-up on the evaporator reducing heat transfer, or low refrigerant. The technician checks all three during the visit and identifies the real cause before any repair.

Why does heavy frost keep building up inside my freezer even though the door closes properly?

The most common cause is a fault in the automatic defrost circuit, whether in the heater element, the timer or the temperature sensor. When this circuit fails, ice accumulates on the evaporator coil until airflow is blocked, cooling weakens and energy use rises. The technician identifies the exact cause by testing each component of the circuit in turn.

Do you service both chest and upright freezers?

Yes, we service both types in homes and shops. Chest and upright freezers share many components such as the compressor, evaporator and thermostat, but the defrost cycle design and coil position differ between them, and our technicians are trained to handle that difference in every case.

Does the freezer type, chest or upright, change how the repair is done?

Yes, in some steps. A chest freezer has the evaporator wrapped around the inner walls, while an upright has it at the back of the compartment with a fan. The position of the defrost heater and how to reach it differ between the two, so the technician needs to know the type before the visit to bring the right tools.

My old shop has a freezer in a very tight space, how do you service it?

We bring specialized compact tools and handle tight spaces with experience. We agree on the best visit time in advance to avoid disrupting the shop.

The passages outside my shop are narrow and the street is crowded, how does the team get in?

The team carries tools by hand when needed and arranges the nearest possible parking point with you, adapting to market congestion.

Sea humidity and crowded market air seem to spoil the freezer fast, is that common here?

Yes, high coastal humidity and crowded market heat speed up evaporator coil icing and strain the compressor, so regular maintenance is vital.

The compressor sits on my shop's old roof, does that affect servicing?

We check the mounting stability, copper lines and electrical connections before any work, and ensure safe rooftop access for safety reasons.
