When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Hindawiyah in old downtown contains older hospitals and clinics in tightly built historic structures with limited space and dated design. Cooling systems here may be old types or fitted in complex conditions due to building constraints, requiring specialist maintenance and alternative installations. Narrow streets and limited entries restrict the size of units and equipment that can reach the site, so advance planning and coordination with hospital management are essential.

Al Hindawiyah sits in Jeddah's historic downtown, an older district of closely built structures housing older clinics and hospitals around the popular markets.

Most older hospitals and clinics in Al Hindawiyah use separate or window cooling systems, with small outdoor units on narrow facades or cramped balconies.

The AC setup in Al Hindawiyah

  1. 1

    Separate cooling per department

Old hospitals in Al Hindawiyah typically cannot support a central system, so we use separate units per department or floor.

  2. 2

Outdoor units mounted on walls and corners

Due to building and street constraints, outdoor units are mounted on side walls or safe exterior corners rather than roofs.

  3. 3

Upgrade from old or window units

Many old hospitals still rely on window units; we recommend upgrading to modern split units for efficiency and safety.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Hindawiyah

  1. 1

Tell us the nearest safe parking point

Al Hindawiyah's streets are tight; let us know the nearest safe point the team can park before the visit.

  2. 2

Notify the hospital management of the visit time

Ensure hospital management is notified in advance so non-critical departments can be coordinated and emergencies won't clash with the visit.

  3. 3

    Confirm the outdoor-unit installation location

Identify the safe wall or corner for the outdoor unit before the visit, ensuring it is away from main entrances and windows.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

Our hospital building is very old; can you install a new cooling system?

Yes, we can assess the old system and propose a new one suited to available space. We work quickly without halting operations.

Streets are very narrow; how do you bring large units in?

We choose smaller units suited to tight access, or disassemble and reassemble larger units on site.

The building is very old with high humidity; will a new cooling unit withstand this?

We select units designed to withstand high humidity and coastal conditions. We recommend servicing every two months to clean coils and drains.

There's no roof or wide space to mount the outdoor unit; what's the solution?

We mount units on strong walls or exterior corners. We choose locations that don't interfere with shops or the hospital's main entrance.
