When you need a retail HVAC specialist

  1. 1

A new mall or shopping centre

A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.

  2. 2

An existing shop with uneven cooling

The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.

  3. 3

Condensate dripping on shelves or display

A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.

Who it's for

  • Opening a new shop inside a mall

We design an independent unit for your space and install ductwork and condensate lines before finishing work so your opening is not delayed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey and loads

We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.

  2. 2

    Design and materials

We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.

  3. 3

    Installation coordinated on site

We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.

  4. 4

    Start-up and maintenance contract

We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Khumrah is a mixed residential and commercial district with medium-sized shopping centres, a popular market and smaller standalone shops. The buildings are lower and roofs less accessible than the north, and glass frontages exist but not at the scale of Madain Al Fahd. Heat load is moderate overall. Coastal humidity remains an issue in summer and autumn, especially for clothing and food retailers. Most centres were built in the 1980s and 1990s, so you find a mix of older and newer systems.

Al Khumrah lies in south Jeddah, a district of medium shopping centres, popular markets and mixed housing in lower-rise buildings.

Most shopping centres here run medium-sized central systems, though some still rely on multiple separate split units.

The AC setup in Al Khumrah

  1. 1

    Medium-sized central system

Most shopping centres in Al Khumrah use a medium-powered central system with ducts routed to different sections.

  2. 2

    Auxiliary splits for distant zones

Some centres add extra split units in shops far from the main duct outlet to improve air distribution.

  3. 3

    Mixed system of multiple splits

Older centres may rely on separate split units per shop or zone instead of one central system.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Khumrah

  1. 1

Coordinate with centre manager on service timing

Ring the centre manager beforehand to arrange a time that doesn't disturb shoppers and retailers, preferably closing hours or early morning.

  2. 2

Confirm roof and duct access is feasible

Check that roof stairways are safe and ducts are reachable for cleaning and servicing before the visit day.

  3. 3

Clarify if the centre has central or multiple split units

Tell us whether the centre runs one central system or separate split units, so we bring the right tools and spares.

FAQ

Questions about Mall & retail HVAC

How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?

An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.

Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?

Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.

Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?

A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.

How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?

Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.

Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?

The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.

The centre is fairly old, does the AC system need upgrading?

We inspect the pipes, filters and coils first, and advise upgrading worn parts like the compressor or fans, or we may suggest full replacement if cooling efficiency is very low.

Humidity is high, especially in clothing and food shops, how do you solve this?

We select units with strong drying capacity and advise cleaning filters every six to eight weeks, and checking that the drain pan empties properly.

The centre is medium-sized, is one central system enough?

Under 500 square metres, one system with balanced distribution may suffice. Larger, we may suggest a second system or auxiliary splits for distant zones.

The ceiling is fairly low and ducts are tight, does that affect fitting?

Yes, we select duct sizes that fit the available space and run them along existing horizontal paths, and we may use smaller filters or flexible metal ducts in tight spots.
