Retail cooling without downtime

Mall & retail HVAC in Al Yusr

In Al Yusr, north Jeddah, retail spaces face shifting heat loads as doors open to the outdoor temperature, lighting runs heavy, and footfall rises and falls throughout the day. Alrabih designs and installs systems that adapt to these swings, protect stock from moisture, and are serviced at times that do not disrupt trading.

When you need a retail HVAC specialist

  1. 1

A new mall or shopping centre

A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.

  2. 2

An existing shop with uneven cooling

The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.

  3. 3

Condensate dripping on shelves or display

A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.

Who it's for

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey and loads

We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.

  2. 2

    Design and materials

We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.

  3. 3

    Installation coordinated on site

We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.

  4. 4

    Start-up and maintenance contract

We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Yusr is a growing district with modern residential and commercial projects, small malls and specialist shops, distinguished by contemporary town planning and wide streets. The HVAC system here needs precise balance between meeting visitor comfort and maintaining indoor air quality in the retail spaces, and coordination with mall management or shop owners is straightforward because the infrastructure is modern and easily adaptable.

Al Yusr lies in north Jeddah, a growing development zone with modern residential and commercial projects and local specialist malls.

Retail spaces and malls here tend to use central systems with individual zone control per section or shop.

The AC setup in Al Yusr

  1. 1

    Central system with multi-zone controls

Modern malls in Al Yusr prefer a single central system with independent temperature control per shop or section.

  2. 2

Supplementary split units for specialist shops

Specialist shops like clothing or electronics often need extra control, so we install separate split units coordinated with the central system.

  3. 3

    High-performance drainage systems

We install dedicated drainage with safety traps to prevent mould and odours, particularly in shared corridors and common zones.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Yusr

  1. 1

    Pinpoint the outdoor unit location

Tell us exactly where the outdoor unit will go, whether on roof or rear yard, and ensure safe access to that spot.

  2. 2

Book a time away from peak trading

We recommend installation in early morning or after closing, so retail activity inside the mall or shop is not affected.

  3. 3

Supply details of shops and sections

Send us a list of shop types and sections (clothing, electronics, food) so we plan air distribution based on each section's needs.

FAQ

Questions about Mall & retail HVAC

How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?

An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.

Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?

Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.

Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?

A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.

How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?

Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.

Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?

The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.

My shop is new, how do I choose the right AC system?

We visit and measure your space, windows and entry, then size the unit based on floor area, stock type and expected footfall.

Our mall is new but some internal shops need separate cooling, how do we solve that?

We install a central system for corridors and common areas, then allow separate split units inside shops needing private control.

My stock is sensitive to rapid temperature swings, how do we stabilise it?

We select outdoor units with adequate capacity and install smart thermostats that adjust gradually rather than in sudden swings.

Our street is wide but parking is tight, how do you deliver equipment?

We agree on the closest parking spot to your entrance, and our team is trained to handle heavy items through tight access routes.
