When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.

What sets this district apart

Al Hijrah is a modern, developed district with multi-departmental hospitals and medical centres alongside newer residential and commercial buildings. Hospitals here need complex central HVAC systems covering operating theatres, intensive care units, wards and outpatient clinics, each with precise heat and humidity requirements. Regular maintenance and continuous inspection are essential to keep operations flowing without interruption and avoid any risk to patients.

Al Hijrah is in north-east Jeddah, a modern district with specialist hospitals and medical centres and tall residential towers.

Most Al Hijrah hospitals have central HVAC systems with multiple air handling units and comprehensive ductwork distribution to each medical department.

The AC setup in Al Hijrah

  1. 1

    Multi-unit central HVAC system

Larger Al Hijrah hospitals rely on multiple air handling units for centralized distribution covering each separate department with precise temperature and humidity control.

  2. 2

    Advanced ductwork and drainage system

Comprehensive duct networks run between floors and departments, with multiple drainage points to quickly remove moisture in the humid coastal environment.

  3. 3

    Outdoor units on rooftops

Most outdoor units are mounted on hospital roofs, requiring regular maintenance and protection against coastal air and salt corrosion.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Hijrah

  1. 1

    Get clearance from hospital management

Contact the hospital's maintenance or engineering department in advance to set the best visit time without affecting operations or patient care.

  2. 2

Ensure rooftop and outdoor access is clear

Confirm that the hospital's rooftops and areas around the outdoor units are safe and accessible for the team, and give us details about entry points and any safety requirements.

  3. 3

    Alert us to high-priority departments

Tell us which critical departments like operating theatres or ICUs need urgent maintenance, so we can plan the visit around the hospital's medical priorities.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

Can you service the hospital without closing departments?

Yes, we plan maintenance with hospital management to carry it out in stages, avoiding any interruption to patient care or impact on surgical operations.

Our hospital is multi-storey with separate departments, how do you distribute cooling to each?

We design the distribution from a site survey of each department and its heat requirements, using separate air handling units and a duct network that delivers precise temperature and humidity control to each zone.

Jeddah's high humidity affects our operating theatres, what do you do?

Jeddah's high coastal humidity calls for advanced air treatment with strong dehumidification in operating theatres and ICUs, and our team regularly inspects these units and maintains the drying filters to meet medical standards.

The outdoor units sit on the hospital roof, how do you handle the electrical runs?

Electrical runs to rooftop units must meet strict safety and medical compliance standards, so we inspect wiring, breakers and switches before each service and check they are protected against humidity and corrosion.
