When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Nuzlah Al Sharqiyah is a southern area with government and private hospitals in modern and medium-sized buildings with relatively regular urban layout. The coastal humidity and intense heat in south Jeddah put heavy pressure on cooling systems, especially during the long summer months. Alrabih's team designs efficient distribution systems that withstand coastal heat stress and carries out regular maintenance to ensure system stability and comfort in medical departments.

Al Nuzlah Al Sharqiyah lies in coastal south Jeddah, an area with hospitals in modern medium-sized buildings.

HVAC systems here are usually central with one or more chillers and distribution ducts covering multiple departments in a moderate range.

The AC setup in Al Nuzlah Al Sharqiyah

  1. 1

    Central chiller with medium-range ducting

Al Nuzlah Al Sharqiyah hospitals use one or more chillers with distribution ducts that spread cooling to multiple departments in a medium range.

  2. 2

Additional units for sensitive departments and intensive care

Some sensitive medical departments may need additional units to ensure precise temperature and humidity control.

  3. 3

Continuous temperature and humidity monitoring systems

Measurement systems connected to control points monitor conditions in each department and ensure stable temperature and humidity.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Nuzlah Al Sharqiyah

  2. 2

Get information about chillers, ducts and indoor unit locations

Request from management information about chiller locations, main ducts and indoor units in each department.

  3. 3

Ensure safe access to roofs and outdoor areas

Verify safe access to chillers and outdoor equipment on roofs, and that stairs and pathways are secure.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

Coastal humidity in the south is very high, does it affect the HVAC system?

Yes, coastal humidity increases the cooling load and speeds up metal corrosion. We monitor chillers and ducts carefully and perform regular maintenance to protect against rust and corrosion.

The long summer heat in the south, are the existing chillers sufficient?

The long, intense summer heat places very high demand on the cooling system. We assess current performance and may recommend capacity upgrades or additional backup units if needed.

Our medical departments need precision in temperature and humidity control, can you provide that?

We design separate control points for each sensitive department and implement monitoring systems that continuously track temperature and humidity to ensure stable conditions.

The outdoor lines and rooftop chillers, how do you handle coastal corrosion?

We regularly inspect lines and chillers and use corrosion-resistant materials and coatings. We recommend periodic protective coatings and regular rooftop cleaning.
