Retail cooling without downtime

Mall & retail HVAC in Al Furqan

Retail HVAC in Al Furqan handles shifting heat loads throughout the day from doors opening to Jeddah's heat, strong lighting and variable footfall. The right system absorbs these swings, keeps moisture away from stock and is serviced at times that do not interrupt trading.

When you need a retail HVAC specialist

  1. 1

A new mall or shopping centre

A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.

  2. 2

An existing shop with uneven cooling

The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.

  3. 3

Condensate dripping on shelves or display

A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.

Who it's for

  • Opening a new shop inside a mall

We design an independent unit for your space and install ductwork and condensate lines before finishing work so your opening is not delayed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey and loads

We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.

  2. 2

    Design and materials

We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.

  3. 3

    Installation coordinated on site

We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.

  4. 4

    Start-up and maintenance contract

We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Furqan is a modern northern district with large-footprint malls and retail shops, high ceilings and multiple entrances with large glass doors opening frequently onto the street. This layout means the HVAC must handle significant heat loss at each door opening and rebalance pressure quickly. Modern malls need servicing during late closing or night hours, requiring coordination with mall management to avoid any impact on trading hours.

Al Furqan lies in northern Jeddah, a recently developed district of large-footprint modern malls and retail shops on open layouts.

Most malls and larger retail shops in Al Furqan use central HVAC systems with multiple outdoor cooling units on roofs or open rear areas.

The AC setup in Al Furqan

  1. 1

    Multi-roof central HVAC system

Most large malls in Al Furqan use multiple cooling units across the expansive roof, each covering a section of the space.

  2. 2

Outdoor units in open rear areas

Some malls place additional cooling units in rear or side areas to distribute load and improve airflow throughout.

  3. 3

Central control systems for temperature regulation

Modern malls require advanced control systems to automatically adjust temperatures across different zones and times.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Furqan

  1. 1

Ensure safe roof access for the team

Confirm that the mall roof provides safe work platforms and ladders to reach the outdoor units before the visit.

  2. 2

Coordinate visit timing with mall management

Inform mall management of the maintenance appointment in advance to arrange access to rear areas and roofs, avoiding any clash with trading hours.

  3. 3

    Designate parking for heavy equipment

Large malls need space for the service van near the rear entrance; confirm this is available.

FAQ

Questions about Mall & retail HVAC

How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?

An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.

Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?

Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.

Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?

A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.

How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?

Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.

Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?

The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.

Do you offer servicing after the mall closes at night?

Yes, we coordinate with mall management to schedule maintenance after closing or during early morning hours to avoid any interruption to trading.

The mall's large entrances lose a lot of cool air, how do you handle this?

We select cooling units with higher capacities to offset the heat loss from frequently opened doors, and recommend quarterly servicing to maintain efficiency.

Summer sun on the mall's large roof, does this affect unit sizing?

Yes, exposed roofs in Al Furqan face prolonged direct sun, which increases the cooling load, so we select larger unit capacities to match.

How is drainage from the outdoor units managed behind the mall?

The rear areas of the mall may require additional drainage provisions if not already present, and we coordinate with management on directing water away from buildings and walkways.
