When a window unit is the right choice

  1. 1

A room with no outdoor unit space

Some rooms have no wall facing a suitable space for an outdoor unit. A window AC is the practical answer: one unit in the opening cools the room and expels heat directly outside.

  2. 2

An annex, staff housing or storeroom

Annexes, staff rooms and warehouses need real cooling without the cost of long copper and cable runs. A window unit suits these spaces well when the right opening exists or can be made.

  3. 3

An existing window of the right size

When a wall already has a window opening that matches the unit you have chosen, the frame fits straight in without cutting new concrete. We confirm at the survey that the opening suits the unit and the wall carries the load.

Who it's for

  • Need to cool a maid's room or home annex

We survey the opening or proposed wall in the annex, fit the unit in a secure frame and seal every gap so no hot humid air enters the space.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp us a photo of the opening or the proposed wall and your district, so the technician arrives with the right frame and fixings.

  2. 2

    Site survey

On site the technician measures the opening, checks the wall, confirms there is a suitable power point near the unit, and agrees with you on any changes needed before starting.

  3. 3

    Fit and seal

We fit the frame level, set the unit with the correct outward tilt, then seal every gap around the frame so no hot air, dust or humidity enters.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the unit, check the cooling and confirm condensate flows outward, then leave the space clean and show you how to clean the filter.

What sets this district apart

Al Andalus is a mixed residential district with spacious villas and multi-storey apartment blocks on Jeddah's western side, where west-facing windows take intense afternoon sun all day. Extreme heat causes frame and material expansion, desert dust builds rapidly, so we focus on high-grade metal brackets that absorb thermal stress, robust sealing that tolerates temperature swings, and effective water drainage.

Al Andalus sits in western Jeddah, a mixed residential district of villas and apartment blocks, known for extreme afternoon heat.

Most window units in Al Andalus face west or south-west, enduring the harshest solar radiation and heat conditions year-round.

The AC setup in Al Andalus

  1. 1

    Spacious villas with multi-directional windows

Modern villas in Al Andalus offer windows in several directions, giving scope to choose a less heat-exposed location.

  2. 2

Closely built apartment blocks with direct western facades

Al Andalus apartment blocks often face directly west, so windows take peak heat, but frames are modern and tolerant of thermal stress.

  3. 3

Limited outdoor space for mounting the unit

Some Al Andalus homes have windows without much external space, so we choose safe locations close to the frame.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Andalus

  1. 1

Identify the window least exposed to peak western sun

If you have several suitable windows, choose the one with the least direct western heat exposure possible.

  2. 2

    Confirm wall and frame strength

Extreme heat stresses walls, so check the wall around the window is strong and crack-free before fitting.

  3. 3

Confirm safe access to the outdoor space

If the window is high or the external space is tight, ensure the team can reach safely and tell us about any hazards.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC installation

Can you cut a new opening in the wall if there is none?

Yes, if no suitable opening exists we can cut one. At the survey we check the wall type and thickness and look for columns or cables that might be in the way, then agree the best position with you before any cutting begins.

Why does the outward tilt matter on a window unit?

A window unit produces condensate on its indoor side throughout operation. If the unit sits level or tilts inward, water pools in the base and runs down the inside wall. A slight outward tilt sends that water to the back of the unit and out, away from the wall and furniture.

How do you seal the gaps around the frame given Jeddah's climate?

Jeddah combines high heat, humidity and salty sea air, so sealing materials must hold up in those conditions. We use insulating and sealing materials suited to the opening and wall type, and the survey determines the right choice based on the gap size and wall construction.

Does a window unit need its own power point?

A window unit draws a high current at start-up, and sharing a socket with other appliances strains the wiring and trips the breaker. The technician checks at the survey that a suitable socket is close to the unit position, and if one is not there we explain what is needed before installation proceeds.

Does the weight of a window unit affect how it is fixed?

Yes, the unit's weight directly affects how the frame is fixed and what support is needed. A concrete wall requires different treatment from a brick wall, and a wide opening needs more support than a narrow one. The technician decides at the survey what fixing method and materials suit the unit and the wall.

The western heat is extreme, will a window unit survive without rapid damage?

Yes, provided we use high-grade metal brackets designed for thermal expansion. We choose silicone and foam rated for high temperatures.

The sun burns from the west, should I choose a different window?

If you have a choice, we recommend a window not directly exposed to western sun. If not, we ensure very strong sealing and periodic bracket stability checks.

Desert dust gets in through tiny gaps, how do you stop that?

We fit high-density weatherstripping and dust-resistant silicone in all gaps. We clean indoor filters regularly to reduce dust entry from any source.

Al Andalus walls take extreme heat, do they need extra protection during fitting?

We assess wall strength before fitting, and if needed we add load-distributing metal brackets to reduce wall stress from thermal expansion.
