When a window unit is the right choice

  1. 1

A room with no outdoor unit space

Some rooms have no wall facing a suitable space for an outdoor unit. A window AC is the practical answer: one unit in the opening cools the room and expels heat directly outside.

  2. 2

An annex, staff housing or storeroom

Annexes, staff rooms and warehouses need real cooling without the cost of long copper and cable runs. A window unit suits these spaces well when the right opening exists or can be made.

  3. 3

An existing window of the right size

When a wall already has a window opening that matches the unit you have chosen, the frame fits straight in without cutting new concrete. We confirm at the survey that the opening suits the unit and the wall carries the load.

Who it's for

  • Need to cool a maid's room or home annex

We survey the opening or proposed wall in the annex, fit the unit in a secure frame and seal every gap so no hot humid air enters the space.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp us a photo of the opening or the proposed wall and your district, so the technician arrives with the right frame and fixings.

  2. 2

    Site survey

On site the technician measures the opening, checks the wall, confirms there is a suitable power point near the unit, and agrees with you on any changes needed before starting.

  3. 3

    Fit and seal

We fit the frame level, set the unit with the correct outward tilt, then seal every gap around the frame so no hot air, dust or humidity enters.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the unit, check the cooling and confirm condensate flows outward, then leave the space clean and show you how to clean the filter.

What sets this district apart

Al Shati is a modern waterfront residential district with spacious villas and flats with large windows overlooking the sea, but continuous direct exposure to sea spray, salt and humidity exceeding 80 per cent means high risk of rust and corrosion. Frames are sturdy and large, but we need meticulous material choice and salt protection. Every tiny gap can let salt water through, and ordinary metal corrodes rapidly in this extremely harsh environment.

Al Shati is a modern northern residential district directly on the waterfront, with villas and flats facing the sea.

Most windows in Al Shati are large and modern with aluminium frames or double glazing, providing a strong surface but requiring high salt protection.

The AC setup in Al Shati

  1. 1

Window unit with supreme salt-resistant materials

Direct salt exposure demands specially treated galvanised or coated aluminium, not standard materials.

  2. 2

Large windows with strong frames facing the sea

Villas and flats here typically have large windows and robust frames providing ample space but requiring above-average sealing.

  3. 3

Window units with high drainage capacity

Extreme humidity demands units rated for high moisture and wide drain channels to prevent water accumulation.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Shati

  1. 1

Check frame condition and early rust signs

If there are rust or corrosion marks on the current frame or old units, let us know in advance so we choose the best materials.

  2. 2

Choose the window least exposed to direct spray

If possible, choose a window set back slightly from the sea's direct edge or sheltered by a wall or natural overhang.

  3. 3

    Discuss future maintenance plans

Al Shati requires regular intensive maintenance. Agree in advance on a check and clean schedule every two or three months.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC installation

Can you cut a new opening in the wall if there is none?

Yes, if no suitable opening exists we can cut one. At the survey we check the wall type and thickness and look for columns or cables that might be in the way, then agree the best position with you before any cutting begins.

Why does the outward tilt matter on a window unit?

A window unit produces condensate on its indoor side throughout operation. If the unit sits level or tilts inward, water pools in the base and runs down the inside wall. A slight outward tilt sends that water to the back of the unit and out, away from the wall and furniture.

How do you seal the gaps around the frame given Jeddah's climate?

Jeddah combines high heat, humidity and salty sea air, so sealing materials must hold up in those conditions. We use insulating and sealing materials suited to the opening and wall type, and the survey determines the right choice based on the gap size and wall construction.

Does a window unit need its own power point?

A window unit draws a high current at start-up, and sharing a socket with other appliances strains the wiring and trips the breaker. The technician checks at the survey that a suitable socket is close to the unit position, and if one is not there we explain what is needed before installation proceeds.

Does the weight of a window unit affect how it is fixed?

Yes, the unit's weight directly affects how the frame is fixed and what support is needed. A concrete wall requires different treatment from a brick wall, and a wide opening needs more support than a narrow one. The technician decides at the survey what fixing method and materials suit the unit and the wall.

Does direct sea salt corrode window unit metals quickly?

Yes, direct salt causes corrosion very rapidly. We use galvanised materials, treated aluminium and additional protective coatings on all exposed metals.

Does 80 per cent humidity or higher affect cooling efficiency and drainage?

Yes, very high humidity triples condensate volume. We choose units with higher drainage capacity and ensure fast, complete drainage to prevent water pooling.

The window faces the sea directly, should we add external protection?

Yes, we recommend simple external protection like a small awning or salt shield around the outdoor unit to reduce direct exposure.

How often does the unit need servicing due to salt and high humidity?

In Al Shati we recommend servicing every two to three months to clean salt, dust and check metals. Regular care maintains the unit's lifespan.
