When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Aziziyah hospitals house diverse departments including operating theatres, intensive care, general wards, labs and pharmacies, each with distinct temperature and humidity needs. Buildings are typically modern and built to high medical standards, with wide and complex air distribution networks. Even minutes of cooling loss can threaten ICU patients or ruin lab samples, so maintenance requires careful coordination with clinical staff and hospital management to prevent any cooling gap.

Al Aziziyah sits in central Jeddah, an area with large government and private hospitals featuring multiple specialist departments and advanced medical facilities.

Most hospitals here use complex central cooling with multiple air-handling units and separate control zones for each clinical department.

The AC setup in Al Aziziyah

  1. 1

Complex central cooling with backup units

Large hospitals need a robust central system with backup units to ensure cooling never stops in critical areas like operating theatres and ICUs.

  2. 2

Multiple air-handling units with separate control per department

Each clinical department has unique temperature and humidity needs, so the hospital requires separate handling units with independent control valves.

  3. 3

    Advanced dehumidification and filtration systems

To protect medical equipment and samples from coastal humidity, the hospital needs high-efficiency filters and dehumidification in all sensitive areas.

Before the visit

Obtain the hospital's complete architectural plans

Provide us with engineering drawings for each floor, department locations and existing ducts and pipes so we can design precisely.

  2. 2

Coordinate with hospital management and clinical staff

Meet with medical and administrative leaders to set design, installation and maintenance times that do not disrupt patient care or safety.

  3. 3

Identify outdoor unit locations and main entry point

Show us where outdoor units can go on roofs or walls, and identify the nearest entry point for the team and equipment from parking or the main entrance.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

How do you prevent cooling loss in operating theatres and ICUs?

We design systems with backup units and phase maintenance so cooling stays on in critical areas, and we work with hospital management to choose safe times.

Operating theatres and labs need high precision in temperature and humidity, how do you verify this?

We install precision monitors in each department and run regular tests to confirm temperature and humidity stay within the range required for clinical safety.

Coastal humidity might affect sensitive medical equipment, what do you advise?

We recommend advanced air dehumidification and high-efficiency filters in all departments, and regular servicing of condensers and ducts to prevent condensation and mould.

How many outdoor units does a hospital need, and where are they placed?

It depends on the hospital's size and number of departments, and we survey the building to locate outdoor units for efficiency, ease of maintenance and airflow.
